چکیده

Use of synthetic pesticides causes some unfortunate consequences such as environmental pollution, pests/ vector resistance and toxicity to other non-target organisms including human beings, biological pesticides from plant, microbial origin are environmentally safe pesticides. Microbial insecticides are especially valuable because their non-toxicity to non-target animals and human beings. Laboratory investigation using the plants such as, Vetiveria zizanioides (Linn.) (Poaceae), Ocimum basilicum (Linn.) (Lamiaceae) and the microbial pesticide spinosad against the malarial vector Anopheles stephensi Liston showed 85% mortality. The observed mortality rate suggests the above extract can be used as biopesticides. The LC 50 of second, third and fourth instar larvae of A. stephensi were 0.276%, 0.285% and 0.305%, respectively.

Larvicidial Effects of essential oil and methanol extract of Achilleawilhelmsii C. Koch (Asteraceae) against Anopheles stephensi Liston (Diptera: Culicidae), a malaria vector

Background: Mosquitoes are responsible for the transmission of many pathogens and parasites and consequently serious diseases in humans. Currently, application of plant derivatives has been suggested as an alternative bio-control technique for these medically important vectors. Methods: In this study the essential oil and methanol extract of Achilleaw...

Larvicidal and pupcidal efficacy of Momordica charantia leaf extract and bacterial insecticide, Bacillus thuringiensis against malarial vector, Anopheles stephensi Liston. (Diptera: Culicidae)

The efficacy of leaf extracts of Momordica charantia and Bacillus thuringiensis has been proven against larvicidal and pupicidal activities of the malarial vector, Anopheles stephensi. The present study investigated the larvicidal and pupicidal activity against the first to fourth instar lavae and pupae of the laboratory-reared mosquitoes, An. stephensi. The plant extract showed larvicidal and ...

The use of Eucalyptus tereticornis Sm. (Myrtaceae) oil (leaf extract) as a natural larvicidal agent against the malaria vector Anopheles stephensi Liston (Diptera: Culicidae).

Secondary metabolites obtained from the indigenous plants with proven mosquito control potential can be used as an alternative to synthetic insecticides under the integrated vector control. The essential oil extract from the forest redgum, Eucalyptus tereticornis Sm. (Myrtaceae) was tested against mature and immature mosquito vector Anopheles stephensi Liston (Diptera) under laboratory conditio...
